How long have you done CrossFit and what was your reason for joining?
I have been doing CrossFit since Power Valley opened about a year ago. Being away from an Army post, I found CrossFit was similar to Army style physical training. It provided a supportive team type of environment that is both challenging and rewarding.
Mid-May will be a year I have been doing CrossFit. My reason for joining is that I want a six-pack! Haha! No really, during 2011-2013, I lost a lot of weight, and I was trying to get healthy. I needed a push to get out of my comfort zone. I was just about to look into classes at the gym when I heard about CFPV. I was hooked immediately!
What’s your favorite workout (Movement/Lift/Benchmark etc.) and favorite post workout food?
I enjoy any exercise overhead but overhead squat is my favorite if I had to choose one. I think my post workout food is the reason I workout. My most common meal is a breakfast skillet consisting of sweet potatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms, sausage and eggs. And, a cup of coffee is a requirement.
I like the fight gone bad WODs and AMRAPS are always good too, because on those days I'm not last! Front and back squats are probably my favorite lift. I can actually hang for a bit and handle some weight when we do f/b squats. The only benchmark I can "remember" is Angie, and that's because it was one of my first WODs and I thought I would die before it was all over, haha! Did someone say "food"? Mmmmm, I love to cook AND eat! Post workout food is always different, but one favorite is a breakfast skillet - sauteed sweet potatoes, handful of spinach, scrambled eggs and crumbled sausage or bacon . . . If it's afternoon when I'm done, then a big salad, like a cobb or a chef salad w/ lots of greens and some protein.
What’s your least favorite workout (Movement/Lift/Benchmark etc.) and favorite cheat meal?
The thruster is the demon of CrossFit in my mind. I am pretty sure Satan had something to do with its invention. You can probably throw wall balls in with that exercise since it is the same movement. Not sure if it is considered a cheat meal but I love ice cream. It is not uncommon to drag everybody into Yogurt Extreme to pile up a cup of sugar.
I hate running, so any WOD that has a large amount of running sucks for me! I much prefer to run on my own terms. Like when I'm not partaking in some sort of intense workout . . . I don't dislike any particular lift, but I struggle with anything overhead. I have carpal tunnel issues and it is hard for me to lift much when the weight goes overhead. Least favorite benchmark . . . not sure. Is there one with a long ass run?? Yeah, that one ;) Favorite cheat meal . . . Do we have time for this?? Haha! No, I can narrow that down easy. Either pizza, Ciddici's Mom's Favorite, or a good bacon cheeseburger. First Burger, 5 Guys, or new spot for a great burger, Frankie's in N. Albany.
What is your next goal? i.e. doubles, pull ups, weight loss, body fat%, come more etc.
I have a few goals before the next open since I have identified a number of weaknesses. Other than general strength and endurance, my two goals are to get my double-under s and bar muscle ups.
<----- All that - Well . . . I'd like to link more than 3 doubles together at some point. Some strict pull-ups would be nice, eventually. And ALL of these holidays are killing me, so NO MORE baking goodies, and back to cutting some body fat and all that good stuff . . . AND I do want to run a 5k soon. Did I mention I hate running!?!
Words cant express how much these two mean to our gym family! They have been with us from day 1 and are always ready to support, participate or cheer others on. No matter where there is a competition or event you'll see these two, Mandie usually behind a camera and Tim chalking it up with the guys. These two are the epitome of community and what it is to support and encourage others without asking for anything in return. It is with great sadness that soon we will be saying "until next time" as they embark on the next chapter of their lives and are moving away. It has been a pleasure watching both of these two grow as athletes. Tim has one the nicest overhead squats in the gym and has a natural ability in Olympic weight lifting. It's always fun to coach him in OLY class. Mandie has come a long way from when I first met her at the gym up the road and serves as an example of where hard work can get you. She is inspiration to others and is constantly encouraging ladies to get off their butts and get to the gym. It is an honor to present to you all, Tim and Mandie!!!
