Don't even know where to start for these two. From the opening of our box they have been big supporters and a huge piece of the puzzle. They go above and beyond to make things go smoothly at events, always lend a helping hand to assemble equipment, get supplies, make repairs etc. That isn't even talking about their hard work ethic in the gym. These two bust their asses day in and day out. These are goal oriented individuals that never leave anything in the tank. They've brought their kids into the gym, friends from the community and family to share in what we do. They are motivators, they inspire through their actions and are always thinking about others. (And they both have a great sense of humor, I think that's mandatory with me as your coach though). It is an honor to have two great athletes in our gym and a pleasure to coach them both. If you looked up the definition of what community looks like in a CF box, their picture would be there. We love the Vogt family and look forward to where the next year of training and goal setting take you guys!
How long have you done CrossFit and what was your reason for joining?
Craig- "I started CrossFit in May 2013 after driving by and seeing several people running around the building. I was looking for a CrossFit gym as my twin brother belonged to one in Eugene. We were both training for the World's Toughest Mudder a 24 hour obstacle course race in Nov 2013 in New Jersey. During several of our workouts together I could see his overall physical fitness was better than mine. I had to find a CrossFit gym that met my screwed up work schedule."
Amy-"I started doing CrossFit in June of 2013 when my husband dragged me down to the box to do Fundamentals with Andrew. We had actually been looking for a box to join in the area as Craig had gotten into running these insane mud adventure runs and were looking for a place with more structure to keep him motivated. Craig was driving around while on duty and saw people running around the box and had to stop in and see if it was a CrossFit box. I just wanted to get rid of my fat knees and knew that I needed a more structured workout as well, and what better way to support Craig than to work out together. Yep famous last words……. So, off we went to fundamentals training and my first WOD..."
What’s your favorite workout (Movement/Lift/Benchmark etc.) and favorite post workout food?
Craig- "My favorite lift is the Power Clean/Squat Clean/Hang Clean and my favorite post workout food is steak."
Amy-"LOL My favorite movement is the handstand push up, as I can kick my husband’s rear in doing these. For some strange reason they are insanely easy for me to do and I can pump out 10 or more in a row. Umm.. do we really have to talk about food? I am horrible with my food choices and my post workout choice would be a Dr. Pepper. :-/ LOL
What’s your least favorite workout (Movement/Lift/Benchmark etc.) and favorite cheat meal?
Craig- "Least favorite moves are Deadlift's and Handstand push-ups and my favorite cheat is ice cream."
Amy- "Oh wow, they ALL make me not want to come to the box because I know how much I am going to hurt while doing them. Craig loves to torture me with the telling me the workouts beforehand. I would rather not know what we are doing, but he just has to tell me what the days WOD is. I have never had such a love/hate relationship with doing workouts as I do with CrossFit, even though I could totally wuss out and lift less wt and go at the workouts with less intensity, but I just can’t seem to do that ever. And then there is Andrew standing there giving me the look and telling me to pick up the wt and to get moving!!! You
cannot beat that motivational style. LOL My least favorite move is anything that involves the “clean” as I always revert back to doing a forearm curl instead of doing the actual clean pull which is due to moving too many hay bales for too long. Hmm cheat meal….. To me they are all cheat meals….. duh….. My favorite meal to eat would be a prime rib dinner: salad, prime rib, baked potato loaded, veggie and rolls. Nomm nomm nomm nommm…
What is your next goal? i.e. doubles, pull ups, weight loss, body fat%, come more etc.
Craig- "I suppose I have several goals. To achieve a higher ranking in the 2015 Open and continue as far as I can go. World's Toughest Mudder 2015 and make it farther than 50 miles. Heal up from these nagging injuries and get stronger."
Amy- "Exercise wise I would love to get the darn double under mastered and quit whipping the crap out of myself with my jump rope!!! Weight loss you bet! And decrease in body fat, oh yeah! Slight problem, I have to work on cleaning up my diet first. I LOVE food, mostly sugar, carbs…. I eventually want to try to do a competition, but I need more consistency in going to the box to get me there. A full time job and running a boarding facility keeps me pretty busy then I toss in training a few horses and the kids and I seem to run out of time. Now if I could just get Craig to let me quit my day job I would be set. ;-)
