How long have you done CrossFit and what was your reason for joining?
Dan – I joined about nine months ago after hearing several fellow yogis talking about CFPV and how they really enjoyed the challenging workouts and that the atmosphere was awesome.
Michele – My nephew is an avid Crossfitter in Reno. He has been bragging about CF for years, trying to get us to find a box. He claimed it would “make me a faster runner, more efficient”. Last spring we had a Corvallis flooring contractor out to give us a bid on floors, we ended up talking more about CF and running than flooring. He mentioned making “boxes” for a new CF box opening in Albany. Last July, when “kid” life slowed down, we found CFPV, the rest is history. BTW, my nephew was right!
What’s your favorite workout (movement/lift/benchmark, etc.) and favorite post workout food?
Dan – My favorite lift is overhead squats even though I can’t lift much. My favorite workout is “Mary.” I’m sure Andrew would be happy to explain how this became my favorite. #ACishumanafterall. My favorite post workout food in the morning is eggs, lots of eggs, mixed with anything or plain.
Michele – I seem to LOVE what the majority hates; burpees, thrusters, OHS; any workout that works many parts of my body, not just one area. My favorite post workout food (this week) is plain greek yogurt with a little honey and a boat load of fresh blueberries.
What’s your least favorite workout (movement/lift/benchmark, etc.) and favorite cheat meal?
Dan – My least favorite workout was CF Open 14.5! Thrusters are the enemy. My favorite cheat meal would be any food that includes bread, in any variation from pizza to cinnamon rolls.
Michele – The last few months I’ve learned to tolerate the deadlift, although it’s still my least favorite. At least I no longer avoid CF on the days that I see the deadlift posted on the WOD. J
What is your next goal? i.e. doubles, pull ups, weight loss, body fat%, come more, etc.
Dan – I have several goals. I really want to get a muscle up. So close but yet so far away. A 300lb DL by the end of the year would also be a real treat. And speaking of ‘treats,’ that may be why a six pack is not so easy to achieve; this goal my take a while!
Michele – I love CF and I love to run, therefore, my goal is to continue to work on my eating habits and to “Eat to Perform”. My family and I have made drastic changes in our household which we owe to our CF family, however, I continue to be challenged by all kinds of food temptations (If there is a cookie sitting in front of me, I will eat it!). It’s a work in progress.
Dan and Michele are this weeks featured members, and I want to be first to say, I love Dan's hash tag. I will admit, he smoked me side by side on Mary and it drove me crazy. We'll never do that WOD again, EVER, lol. ANYWAY, It is awesome to see this already athletic family take it to another level. I thought they'd never come back after Andrea had Dan bust his shins on the box in "fundamentals". Their mobility has come along quite well and it's exciting to watch them check one goal off after another. The Smiths have a contagious glow about their entire family, they ALL smile during the workouts which blows my mind because most of the time I'm grimacing in pain trying to catch my breath and they're all cool just trotting along. We love having you guys in the gym, it is a pleasure to have the opportunity to be a part of your health and fitness journey you guys, keep rocking it!
